George Eliot

George Eliot (a pen name of Mary Anne Evans) was a leading female writer of the victorian era. Her books were written to rise above 'silly novels by lady novelists'.

 

Often exploring the problematic challanges of relationship and love in the mid-nineteenth century.

 

Her seventh book Middlemarch secured her popularity in modern times as a much loved writer.
